The November 3 election will have giant ramifications for the entire world, and certainly for Canada. Although the outcome will not likely be clear for days after voting day, by November 13 the trends should be evident. Join us for a panel discussion featuring four activists and scholars on the left, offering perspectives from Canada, the US and the UK.
Radhika Desai, President of the Society, will be moderating this panel and leading a Q&A discussion afterward.

About the Panelists
Gary Dymski is professor of applied economics at Leeds University, UK. Born and raised in the US, he has taught at Leeds since 2012. His extensive research covers US politics and policy, including the political economy of race.
Margaret Kimberley is Senior Editor of the Black Agenda Report, author of Prejudential: Black America and the Presidents, and active in the leadership of The Black Alliance for Peace and the United National Antiwar Coalition.
Dimitri Lascaris is a Montreal-based lawyer, journalist and activist based An ardent ecosocialist, he recently came a close second in the race for the Green Party of Canada He has been a correspondent for The Real News Network and is currently a member of its Board of Directors.
Dennis Pilon is associate professor, Department of Politics, York University, and a gay and Métis scholar specializing in electoral politics, the media and Canadian politics.
Shama Rangwala is assistant professor in the Department of Humanities at York University in Toronto. Her research focuses on the reproduction of racial capitalism throughout the modern history of settler colonialism. She is founding editor of Pyriscence and a regular panelist on Alberta Primetime.
Vijay Prashad is an Indian historian, editor and journalist. He is author of Red Star Over the Third World (LeftWord, 2017) and the Chief Editor of LeftWord Books. His latest book is Washington Bullets, with an introduction by Evo Morales Ayma.

The Society for Socialist Studies (SSS) is an association of progressive academics, students, activists and members of the general public. Formed in 1967, the Society’s purpose is to facilitate and encourage research and analysis with an emphasis on socialist, feminist, anti-racist and ecological points of view.
