The Winter Issue of Socialist Studies/Etudes Socialistes is now out at www.socialiststudies.com. The special issue is ”On Pacification,” guest edited by Mark Neocleous and George Rigakos.
Articles describe, analyse and critique the rise of security discourses and practices, arguing that these are better understood as the pacification of unruly, potentially rebellious subaltern and working classes by the military and police.
The peer-reviewed articles and research notes describe pacification in a range of contexts, from Brazil to South Africa to Canada, while also looking at these as manifestations of broader, world-wide dynamics within world capitalism — for instance, as one aspect of a system of global apartheid.
Thank you to artist Pat Thornton for the wonderful artwork, ‘Days of Fire,’ on the cover.
As always, all content is entirely open access. To support the ongoing existence of the journal, please consider joining the Society of Socialist Studies (10 Canadian dollars unwaged and students, 20 Canadian regular membership).
