2009 Carleton

<>

Congress 2009 took place from May 27 to May 30 at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.

Dates & Reminders

Submission of Session Proposals: November 20, 2008

Joint Sessions: Those of you who are organizing joint sessions need to submit information to both sponsoring associations. Please ensure that we know that yours is a joint session and that the other association is aware as well. You need to meet the deadlines of both associations. Both associations need to know who is responsible for booking a room and any possible equipment for your joint session. SSS does not require participants to pay for our meetings if they have paid for the other sponsoring association’s meetings. However, SSS does require that people become members of SSS in order to be eligible for travel funding from our organization.

Submission of Abstracts: January 15, 2009.

Final Session Line-ups: February 1, 2009. Session coordinators are asked to send their final session line-ups with full contact information for all participants to:
Chad Thompson at chad.d.thompson@gmail.com.

Travel Grant Applications: March 15, 2009 - See the link for the Travel Grant Application form due by e-mail to mcooke@yorku.ca by March 15, 2009.

Session Equipment Request: March 1, 2009. Please send your requests for audio/visual equipment to chad.d.thompson@gmail.com. If we do not receive your request by March 1, then we cannot ensure that you will get the equipment you need. Please note that SSS will not accept requests to rent equipment for showing PowerPoint presentations; the rental fees are too high.

Early Congress Registration: March 31, 2009. There have traditionally been cheaper “early bird” registration rates to the Congress for delegates who register by March 31st. Go to the Congress Website: http://fedcan.virtuo.ca/index.php?action=artikel&lang=en&id=20  to register either online or by other means. All participants must register for the Congress and also for either the Society for Socialist Studies ($30 Regular/$15 Student/Unwaged/Retired) or another association with whom we share the session in question.

Accommodations: There is some concern that accommodations close to Carleton campus will be limited, so delegates are reminded to look into their accommodations shortly after receiving the Federation’s Congress booklet in January/February.

If you have any questions regarding the Congress, please do not hesitate to send them to Chad Thompson at chad.d.thompson@gmail.com

2009 New Scholars Forum

As part of its mandate to facilitate and encourage research and analysis in Canada with an emphasis on socialist, feminist, ecological and anti-racist points of view, the Society for Socialist Studies is pleased to offer a venue to new scholars working in these areas who have not yet completed a Masters degree.

Paper proposals could be in any of these areas, as well as on topics relating to the Society’s theme, “Kapital Connections: Socialism, Nation, State,” or the 2009 Congress theme, “Capital Connections: Nation, Terroir, Territoire.”
