The Society for Socialist Studies meets annually as part of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The largest multidisciplinary academic gathering in Canada, Congress is hosted by a different Canadian university each spring.
Sessions and Roundtables
Sessions and roundtables are organized by returning and new members of the Society. Individuals may also propose individual papers which will then be slotted into a session. Each year, the Society chooses an overall theme, but we are open to any topic that relates to the broad mandate of the Society. Our call for sessions, roundtables and papers is normally issued in the fall.
The Society welcomes and encourages the organization of sessions and roundtables that are cross-listed with other academic associations. Interested session organizers are responsible for meeting the requirements (deadlines and other) of the various academic associations.
For information on the Society for Socialist Studies at Congress, email Ingo Schmidt, Congress Programme Chair.
Each year, a well-known scholar delivers a keynote address to our plenary session. Normally, these keynote addresses are published in our journal, Socialist Studies/Études socialistes.
New Scholars Session
The Society encourages the participation of new scholars and graduate students. Our New Scholar Sessions are open to those scholars who have not completed a Master’s Degree.
Congress is our annual opportunity to meet in person, organize and socialize. Returning and new members are encouraged to attend our Annual General Meeting in order to learn more about the Society and to help sustain and build it. Normally, we also hold an Executive meeting and an Editorial Board meeting at Congress.
