Call for Session Organizers

The 2007 Society for Socialist Studies Congress Programme Committee encourages you to submit proposals for session topics that fall
within the sphere of focus of the Society.
We have not set out a particular theme, but the committee hopes to see sessions on topics such as:

·       public knowledge and/or the ongoing privatization of knowledge

·       public academics and/or research methods that aim to create public  knowledge (like institutional ethnography, participatory
action research, etc)

·       knowledge outside of the academy

·       Canada's farming industries - food issues and/or food security

·       Co-operatives (farming, food, or other types of Co-ops)

Proposals may be submitted for any and all topics in which you have an interest and are willing to chair. We hope to have sessions in the
traditional panel format, but also encourage other formats and will work to find suitable space for workshop sessions, round-table discussions,
etc.

We also invite sessions under the Congress main theme (as selected by the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences):
“Bridging Communities: Making public knowledge – Making knowledge public.” Sessions which fit this theme may be eligible for extra
funding from the Federation. Please remember that all SSS sessions must be open to participation from SSS members and others. Sessions
cannot be closed or already full at the time the Programme Committee receives the session proposal.

A note on joint sessions: you are encouraged to coordinate sessions that could be run jointly with other organizations. Please make sure
that you submit the full information to both associations (them and us) and meet the deadline of each. Also, please make it clear to both
which organization will be in charge of scheduling your joint session.

If you are interested in organizing a session at the 2007 SSS Annual Meetings, please complete the information IN THE ORDER INDICATED
below by October 25, 2006. Early submissions will be much appreciated, so that the Programme Committee can get on with the process of
calling for papers to fill our sessions.
