The Society for Socialist Studies is renewing, rebuilding and reaching out! It’s time for the many scholars and activists who have affinities for Socialist Studies but who do not belong, to become members (and for lapsed members to renew).
Our membership drive, our newsletter and much-improved website and Facebook all fit into an outreach that matters not only to the future of our organization, but to the Left in and beyond Canada.
We have dropped membership dues to a rock-bottom level to remove barriers to participation and belonging. We envisage SSS growing both within the left academy and beyond, both within the national borders and beyond.
For decades, Socialist Studies has been a crucial interdisciplinary focal point, connecting many progressive currents – socialist, feminist, Indigenous, anti-racist, ecological, anarchist, queer and anti-imperialist to name some of them, and in no particular order. Having established a strong academic journal in the past decade, we want to rebuild our capacity to bring together strands of radical thinking, in conversation, debate and solidarity.
The membership drive is being spearheaded by a committee made up of Ben Levy (chair, firstname.lastname@example.org), Bill Carroll (email@example.com) and Marjorie Griffin Cohen (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you have any suggestions as to how to make the drive successful (including people and groups we should be contacting), or if you would like to join the effort, please be in touch with one of us! And, if you are not yet a member of the Society, joining is just a few clicks away. (This is not an endorsement of clickavism as a strategy for changing the world.)
Whether you are part of the growing precariat (in which case annual dues are $10), or in a position to support or sponsor the Society by paying higher dues, we really welcome your membership, and participation!
